Sympathetic Barn Conversion
to Office Accomodation
James Whilding and Mike Bamforth of Acorus were approached
by Mr & Mrs Mutton with regard to the possible conversion
of their barns in late 2002. Typical of most clients with
redundant buildings, they were aware that their buildings
were becoming a liability and needed an alternative use
to ensure their survival. A detailed feasibility study was
commissioned to assess the possible alternatives in terms
of viability and the obtaining of planning approval.
The quiet location in the Bodmin countryside yet convenient
to the A30, leant itself to office/accommodation. The buildings
have been sympathetically converted, re-using the existing
materials wherever possible including the old timber joists
to form shelving and the slate cow divisions for flooring.
The conversion also included the creation of a new dwelling
within the adjoining two storey building, which was completed
in the autumn of 2006.
The units are all let to local businesses and our clients
are enjoying life in their new barn conversion. The project
was designed and project managed by Mike Bamforth and was
shortlisted for the CLA Awards.
