Establishing a Goat Unit
Guy and Anna Wrightson first appointed Nigel Belton of
Acorus in 1998, to advise them on a number of building matters
when they were considering purchasing a redundant dairy
farm on the Devon/Somerset border with a view to converting
it into a goat milking enterprise.
Nigel, a Chartered Building Surveyor, advised them on the
feasibility of converting the buildings and also carried
out a structural survey of the farm house.
Following completion of the purchase, Nigel undertook the
design of the conversion of the main goat housing together
with adoption of the milking parlour and dairy and then
managed the construction process through to completion.
Guy and Anna were then able to relocate their goats from
a rented farm and commence their new enterprise in their
own buildings.
Over the years as the farm business expanded, Acorus have
undertaken a series of planning and building design management
functions on their behalf, including: new hay barn, refurbished
silage clamps, rationalised farm drainage, water treatment
facilities, new rearing yard, new milking yard, extension
to farm house to form self-contained family annexe.
At the time of writing we are in the process of obtaining
planning consent for a temporary migrant worker's dwelling.
