Garden Centre Design & Build Project With
Seven Figure Budget
A substantial year long ‘design and build’
project came to a positive conclusion in 2007 when Acorus
successfully completed a client’s ambitious garden
centre build within an extremely tight timescale.
In July 2006, NWF Retail Ltd (NWF) obtained planning consent
for the construction of a major new garden centre on a 3ha
site in Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester and the ‘design
and build’ project boasted a seven figure budget.
From September 2006 onwards, David Ellis, an Associate
within Acorus, and his team worked to the client’s
brief which was to approach several contractors, obtain
tenders on a design and build basis, appoint contractors
and administer the works through to final handover to the
client.
With such an extensive number and variety of contractors
involved, strong project management skills were key. Acorus
performed this role to the client’s satisfaction working
with two main contractors, one being appointed Principal
Contractor. With all works being completed according to
plan the garden centre was ready to open in Spring 2007.
