Second Dwelling on Arabian Stud Farm

James Whilding, Associate of Acorus Rural Property Services Ltd in Exeter, successfully gained planning consent for a second dwelling on an Arabian stud farm on Exmoor. Acting on behalf of Simon MacCorkindale, well known for playing Harry Harper in the BBC medical drama Casualty, and his actress wife Susan George, James facilitated the planning application through to a positive completion.

Development in the countryside is strictly controlled by planning authorities and for some time the National Park Authority had failed to accept the need for additional accommodation on the site.

In 2004 however, the Planning Policy Statement 7 opened up the opportunity for rural businesses falling outside of the agricultural definition to apply for on-site accommodation where an essential need could be fully justified.

Acorus Rural Property Services Ltd achieved this justification and the accommodation, albeit a temporary permission for the first three years, was based on the grounds of animal welfare relating to approximately sixty five horses and young stock.
