Woodchip Production in Green Belt
When a client contacted the Acorus South & East office
about erecting a large new building for woodchip production
it presented significant planning problems.
Green Belt policy dictates that only agricultural and buildings
for leisure use are appropriate development. Inappropriate
development therefore requires special justification which
is difficult to prove. Woodchip production is a non agricultural
operation.
A scheme was put together that showed the building did
have special justification given it promoted recycling of
wood and provided a more sustainable fuel for a local plant
nursery and power station. Farm diversification policies
also helped justify the proposal.
The client having obtained the planning permission is busy
setting up his new enterprise and we wish him well.
