Acorus has extensive experience of working with Government
Departments and Agencies.
Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
(Defra)
Acorus are retained consultants within Defra advising on
acquisition, management and disposal of the Department’s
rural estate which includes properties occupied by agencies
such as the Veterinary Laboratories Agency (VLA) and the
Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science
(CEFAS).
For Agricultural Land Tribunals (ALT),
Acorus are the retained consultants providing Net Annual
Income Assessments in Agricultural Holdings Act 1986 succession
of tenancy applications. For Agricultural Dwelling
House Advisory Committees (ADHACs), we are retained
consultants providing appraisals of applications for the
re-housing of qualifying former agricultural workers under
the Rent (Agriculture) Act 1976.
Highways Agency (Department for Transport, DfT)
Acorus are specialist advisers on agricultural impact assessments
of new road schemes. We work with design and environment
teams carrying out surveys, analysis and assessment of Agricultural
Land Classification (ALC) providing mitigation advice and
contributions to Environmental Statements. We are often
called upon as expert witnesses at Public Inquiries.

HM Prisons Service (Ministry for Justice)
Acorus act as specialist advisers to HM Prison Service on
agricultural/rural building design. We undertake the planning
and design of new prison farm buildings and the appraisal
and refurbishment of old buildings.
We have worked with the Land Based Activities Section with
HM Prison Service over a number of years on various projects
including a modernisation programme for the two remaining
prison farms in the UK. Consultants also have extensive
experience of working with County Councils, The Ministry
of Defence and Forestry Commission.
