Change of Use

Diversification of buildings can facilitate business expansion and provide sustainable income whilst maximising property assets and limiting green field development.

In certain cases, a change of use of a building or land does not require planning permission.  For example planning permission not needed when the existing and proposed use falls within the same ‘use class’, or if The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015  (as Amended) (GPDO) says that a change of use is permitted to another specified ‘use class’.

If a change of use is considered under the GPDO then it may be necessary to follow a prior determination procedure (notification process to the local planning authority).

Proposals which are outside of permitted development will require a full planning application.
